Sonification of Helix Nebula

Sometimes sound gives us a different understanding of space.

The Helix Nebula, 655 light-years away and three light-years across, was created as a low-mass star shed its outer material near the end of its life.In this sonification, scientists have assigned lower pitches to red light and higher pitches to blue light. Just as the frequencies of light increase from red to blue, frequencies of sound increase from low to high pitches.
